Ethiopian Airlines is to become the third African carrier to
join the Star Alliance network.
Joining South African Airways and Egyptair, the airline's
intra-Africa network will widen choice for Star Alliance network
travellers across the globe.
Announcing the news, the chief executive officer at Star
Alliance Jaan Albrecht said in the future there would be three main
African hubs, Addis Ababa, Cairo and Johannesburg, maximising
access to the continent from around the world.
Ethiopian Airlines chief executive officer Girma Wake said:
"Our long experience in the Africa market, coupled with our
strategic hub Addis Ababa, and the recently created Lomé hub, will
allow Star Alliance members to access many new markets in
Africa.
"Together, we can offer our passengers more convenient flight
schedules, greater flight frequencies, a larger network and more
on-line connections. All these features improve the quality of the
service available to our customers."
